Who We Are

About Us

A Spirit-filled community transforming Nashville since 2000.

Our Story

A Legacy of Faith
& Community

Founded on December 31, 2000, Triumphant Nation Nashville has grown from a small gathering into a vibrant, Spirit-filled community transforming lives across Nashville and beyond. What began as a bold step of faith has become a thriving church family committed to the Gospel, to one another, and to our city.

We believe that every person has a God-given purpose, and our mission is to help people discover, develop, and walk in that destiny. Through powerful worship, life-changing teaching, and genuine community, we are committed to seeing Nashville transformed one life at a time.

We gather every Sunday at 11:30 AM and Wednesday at 12 PM & 7 PM at 1390 Old Hickory Blvd, Nashville, TN 37207. Whether you are new to faith or have walked with God for years, there is a place for you here.

Leadership

Meet Our Pastors

Bishop Fred Matthews Jr.

Founder & Senior Pastor

Bishop Fred Matthews, Jr.

Bishop Fred Matthews, Jr. is the founder and senior pastor of Triumphant Nation in Nashville. A Chicago native, he received the Baptism of the Holy Ghost as a young boy at True Church of Holiness, where his grandmother took him to worship.

He began pastoring on December 31, 2000. The congregation was three people that first day: two adults and one child. It grew, and it kept outgrowing its buildings. From a first home in North Nashville, the church moved to a former funeral home in Bordeaux that plenty of people said would never work as a sanctuary. Hundreds were saved there. In December 2019 the ministry became Triumphant Church, and on July 1, 2022, in the thick of the COVID pandemic, it bought its current campus in Madison at 1390 Old Hickory Blvd.

Bishop Matthews graduated magna cum laude from Shaw University with a Bachelor of Science in speech-language pathology and audiology. He earned a Master of Science in speech and hearing science and a Master of Education in special education from Tennessee State University, and completed his certification and clinical fellowship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is a member of the Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society, the Southern Christian Leadership Council, and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated.

He was licensed to ministry through the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World under Diocesan Bishop Sherman Merritt, and was later consecrated Assistant Presider in the International Alliance of Apostolic Ministries. He also holds credentials from Life Changing Ministries, the Tennessee Chaplains Association, and Shield of Faith International.

His work in the city has been recognized widely. He has received honorary awards from the offices of former Nashville Mayor Bill Purcell, Senator Thelma Harper, Councilwoman Erica Gilmore, Representative Harold Love, Councilman Decosta Hastings, Judge Russell Perkins, and Wilson County Mayor Randall Hutto. In 2017 Dr. Bobby Jones presented him the Music City Humanitarian Award for his work in Nashville, and in 2018 he received the Trailblazers Award at the Music City Gospel Awards. For his impact on local youth, Lebanon Mayor Randall Hutto named April 28th "Bishop Fred Matthews Jr. Day" in Wilson County.

Ask him what he is proudest of and the answer is his family. He and First Lady Allison Matthews have been married more than twenty years and have four daughters: Asya, Alexus, Aliyah, and Amariah.

Executive Pastor

First Lady Allison Matthews

First Lady Allison Matthews serves as the Executive Pastor of Triumphant Nation. She is a native of Nashville, TN.

First Lady Matthews is an entrepreneur and business administrator, and was a trailblazer in the cosmetology profession. Starting as a student teacher at Hunter Lane High School, she went on to become an instructor at John Nave University of Cosmetology — and was the first student to become a licensed cosmetologist before finishing high school.

As a successful entrepreneur, she owned and operated her own beauty salon, is a certified travel agent, and is co-owner of The Uniques Creative Selections and T-shirt Printing Co.

Lady Matthews has been involved in church her entire life. She has a special love for the Youth Ministry and serves as a mentor and role model for many.

Of their many accomplishments, Bishop and Lady Matthews are most proud of their family. Married for over two decades, they are the proud parents of four accomplished, beautiful daughters: Asya, Alexus, Aliyah, and Amariah Matthews.
